Our session will look at what the gender spectrum is, and the ways we can support all our students. Inclusive classrooms have a major impact in reducing suicide rates and are crucial to creating safe spaces for all students and staff. Our goal is to feel empowered to create those spaces. Our 26 year old son struggles with substance use disorder - he currently has 8 months of sobriety. I will share the missed warning signs of drug misuse during his high school years, the boundaries that were set and the hope of recovery.
Looking through the lens of student wellness, we will examine two chapters from Ijeoma Oluo's book: Chapter 12: "What are microagressions?" and Chapter 8: "What is the school-to prison-pipeline?". You do not have to have read the book in order to participate in this discussion.
